FUNCTIONS & SERVICES

Quadrangle Mapping Section

-         Available: 219 published geological maps 1:50,000 scale

-         Target for 2004: production of 1:250,00 geol map of the Philippines

Basic geological mapping serving as inputs for mineral exploration, energy exploration, water resources, geohazard assessment, engineering geology, environmental geology and urban planning.

Provides geological information in the form of maps to the public.

Hardcopies are available for sale in the Property Section, Administrative Division of MGB.

Some geological maps are available in CD.(geoldat@mgb.gov.ph)

Urban Geology Section

Conducts Engineering Geological and Geohazard assessment for housing, subdivision, infrastructure, and other land development projects (DENR AO 2000-28). Categories of EGGA:

1.      GIR-GAR system – a geohazard identification system submitted to EMB (Cost : P2000/geologist/day or a minimum of P6000.00)

2.      GSSR-EGGAR – similar to GIR-GAR system except that under this category a Geological Review is mandatory. (Cost: Same as GIR-GAR).

- Geological Review – P6,000.00

Hydrogeology and Environmental Research Section

Conducts hydrogeologic assessment /survey/study and provide technical assistance to water related concerns;

Waste Disposal survey to identify geologically safe landfills and waste disposal sites.

Conducts geophysical survey for possible sources of groundwater/water supply for domestic, industrial, and commercial use.

Ore Genesis

Petrolab

The Geological Services Laboratory Section (also known as PETROLAB) is the laboratory arm of the Lands Geological Survey Division .

Provides training and information to public and MGB regional staffs such as

-         conduct of  lecture & educational tour within the Petrolab facility

-         seminars and training for  laboratory techniques in groundwater and mine environmental  sample

Laboratory provides petrological, mineralogical, geochronological and chemical laboratory services.
